Byron Dennis heading to the MX2 World Championship in 2027

KTM Racing Team extends its thanks to Byron Dennis following two successful seasons together, with the emerging Australian talent progressing from national MX2 podiums to the world stage ahead of a new international opportunity with KTM in 2027. Words: KTM Australia

Dennis – the 2023 Australian MX3 Champion – joined the program ahead of 2025 and continued his progression this season, recording four podium finishes on his way to fourth overall in the Australian MX2 Championship standings aboard the KTM 250 SX-F.

The 19-year-old from Wagga Wagga's performances earned him an opportunity with Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM for selected EMX250 rounds towards the end of the 2026 season, highlighted by third overall at the MXGP of the Netherlands in Arnhem, alongside fifth-place finishes in Sweden and Turkey.

With direct support from KTM Racing Team in a series of wildcard opportunities, Dennis then stepped up to the MX2 World Championship for the final two rounds in China and Australia, finishing seventh overall at both events to conclude his 2026 campaign in impressive fashion.

With a full-time MX2 World Championship campaign awaiting in 2027, Dennis will now depart KTM Racing Team Australia ahead of the Australian Supercross Championship to begin preparations with his new European-based program. The move allows valuable time for team integration, testing and preseason competition ahead of the opening rounds of the MX2 World Championship in February, ensuring he is best placed for success as he embarks on his inaugural full-time world championship season.

Byron Dennis: "It’s a farewell to the KTM Racing Team, which all goes back to Queensland Moto Park – we finished the ProMX season off strong there, got on a plane and headed overseas to do some racing, and was fortunate to have the support from KTM Australia to do so. We put on a good performance over there, had some good starts and really solid speed, so that really sparked a lot of conversations in terms of what 2027 could look like. An opportunity has now arisen to go overseas full-time and race on a KTM supported by KTM Austria, so I am really looking forward to that and seeing what it brings."

Kyle Blunden, KTM Group Australia Motorsport Manager: "We’re proud of what Byron has achieved during his time with the KTM Group. From success in the junior ranks, to winning the ProMX MX3 Championship, progressing into the MX2 category and now earning a place on the world stage in 2027, his development has been impressive. Seeing riders grow through our program and take the next step in their careers is something we take great pride in. While it’s farewell to Byron as part of KTM Racing Team Australia, it’s exciting to see him remain within the KTM family and continue pursuing his goals internationally. The opportunity to begin preparations early for his first full MX2 World Championship campaign is an important step in that journey and one we are proud to support. We thank Byron and his family for their commitment and dedication, and wish them every success in 2027 and beyond. We look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for both the Dennis family and KTM Racing Team Australia."

KTM Racing Team will be READY TO RACE at the 2026 Australian Supercross Championship opener in Auckland on October 31, with Luke Clout, Zac Watson and Dylan Walsh representing the team at North Harbour Stadium.
