Liam Owens locked in for MX2 campaign in 2027

Australian speedster Liam Owens will step up to the MX2 World Championship full-time with CAT Moto Bauerschmidt KTM in 2027.

The 19-year-old joined the Dutch outfit ahead of the 2024 EMX250 season and enjoyed a breakthrough 2025 campaign, which saw him secured three top-five finishes and a maiden podium. His standout result this campaign came at the MXGP of Latvia in 2026, where he claimed a superb second overall despite battling illness, as this nicely accompanied his fifth in Switzerland.

However, a heavy crash in Italy curtailed his season prematurely. After finishing second in moto one, Owens collided with another rider and suffered a shoulder injury that included fractures in three places, forcing him to miss the final five rounds and finish 12th in the standings.
