Rider Reflections: 2026 MXGP of Latvia

Read what a host of MXGP riders had to say about their weekend at the 2026 MXGP of Latvia.

Lucas Coenen: “Amazing! I was thinking ‘Sacha did it, so now it is on me’. I want to thank the team because they worked their asses off. A bit of history today. I was just controlling the second moto because the track was tricky. I tried to make good laps and be smart. Super-pumped, so let’s go and enjoy the USA now.”

Romain Febvre: "It was a consistent weekend with decent starts. I was second for twenty minutes in the first moto, but they were pushing hard behind me and were finding fresh lines, so they were able to take advantage when I made a couple of small mistakes and I had to be satisfied with fourth. I felt much better physically for race two and I could take the holeshot too; they passed me straight away on the first lap but I could run their pace. I even closed down Lucas with two laps to go but in the end I was satisfied to secure the podium and good points for the championship."

Kay de Wolf: "I felt good in the first moto, but I struggled a bit more in the second. I got pushed wide at the start and had to come through from around P8, which made things difficult. I made a few mistakes along the way, so it wasn't quite the moto I was hoping for, but I kept fighting until the end. Overall, it's been a really positive weekend. Coming away with my second MXGP podium and my best result in the class so far is something I'm proud of. We came here aiming for a podium and to be consistent across all three races, and we managed to achieve that. A big thank you to the team for all their hard work. We're happy with the progress we're making, and we'll keep pushing to get even better."

Tim Gajser: “It was another difficult weekend, but there are still positives to take away from it. I was able to put together two consistent motos and finish all of the races, which was important. In the second moto, I felt much better on the bike. I was closer to the riders ahead, I could maintain my pace until the finish, and overall it was a step in the right direction. The last three weeks have been really demanding, so now the focus is on using the weekend off to recover as much as possible and get back as close to 100% as I can for Montevarchi. That’s the goal. I also want to thank the team and everyone around me for their support. During difficult weekends like this, it’s so important to have good people around you who can keep you motivated and help you stay positive. I’m really grateful for all of their hard work and encouragement.”

Pauls Jonass: "Not so bad; I felt good all weekend, and this track is never easy, but I think we did a good job as a team. We found good solutions on the suspension and even made some more good decisions for the second moto to make me even more comfortable. I came out good on the inside from the starts, and made some good passes through the first few corners of race two to come out fourth. It was nice to see so many fans, and I felt their love all day; it was nice to celebrate with my first top-five of the season."

Andrea Adamo: “A solid one. Nothing special. We had the first podium last weekend but not this time. I had some stomach issues, but that’s not an excuse. I was riding good, but I think I could have been better. We always aim for the top five or to try and finish as close as possible…so 6th is not too bad. We now have two weeks for some rest and training before Montevarchi.”

Jeffrey Herlings: "Not much to say, really. Hard to take when this happens, but at least my riding was good and I was challenging for the win. Just got to try and do the best we can from here on in."
