Injury Update: Haiden Deegan suffers broken collarbone at Las Vegas SMX
Haiden Deegan’s hopes of clinching the 250SMX title ended in disaster during the SuperMotocross World Championship Final in Las Vegas, as the young American suffered a broken left collarbone.
The injury came in the final 250SMX moto of the season, when Deegan launched a bold and aggressive pass attempt on race and championship leader Jo Shimoda. The move backfired, with both riders hitting the deck, but only Shimoda was able to remount and continue.
Deegan, clearly in discomfort, tried to lift his bike but immediately gestured towards his left shoulder before walking away from the scene. He was seen speaking with the Alpinestars medical crew and required assistance to remove his helmet.
The crash not only ended his night but also his title ambitions in dramatic fashion.
“I gave it everything I had to win the championship. This new format of racing in SMX makes for an intense grand finale. I always give 110%. It’s high-stakes racing, and it’s hard to really explain what that’s like without being in that situation. Props to Jo (Shimoda) on the championship. He put up a helluva fight," Deegan reflected.
